Driver charged after truck slides into oncoming train in West Chester

A Maineville man has been charged after his pick-up truck rammed into a train Friday in West Chester Twp.

Edward Cadwallader, who was not injured, was cited by West Chester Police for failure to control, a minor misdemeanor, said Barb Wilson, spokeswoman for the township.

According to police, the gates at the double railroad tracks on Tylersville Road near the Cincinnati-Dayton Road intersection were down Friday morning at 7:05 a.m. and the gates’ warning lights were flashing signaling a passing train.

Cadwallader, whose truck was traveling west on Tylersville Road, slid through the gates and struck the second railroad car of a Norfolk & Southern train, spun around and struck the train a second time.

His truck was dragged a short distance, but he exited it after it stopped moving and was uninjured.

The accident halted morning traffic at the Tylersville railroad crossing for more than an hour.
