Logsdon wins GWOC wrestling crown

By John Cummings

Lebanon High School sophomore Alec Logsdon wasn’t feeling the love at the Greater Western Ohio Conference wrestling tournament Saturday at Butler High School.

Logsdon, a state qualifier at Waynesville last year, entered the tournament as the second seed.

And, it didn’t sit well.

“It upset me a bit,” Logsdon said after claiming the title at 113 pounds. “All I could do was take it out on who stepped on the mat with me.”

And, Logsdon got a lot of frustration out.

Logsdon opened with a 19-3 technical fall over West Carrollton’s Tristan Briner before moving into the semis with a 18-3 win over Neno Brown of Trotwood. Logsdon moved into the finals with a fall in 35 seconds over sixth-seeded Jacob Sharp of Sidney to advance to the finals.

Logsdon recorded a quick takedown on top seed Nick Broyles of Northmont in the finals for a 2-0 lead after the first period before Broyles came back to take a short 3-2 lead early in the second period.

Logsdon, however, escaped, recorded a takedown and turned Broyles for back points to claim a 9-4 win.

“My goal is to be the outstanding wrestler,” Logsdon said after his win and long before the votes were tallied to give him the award.

The Warriors took advantage of a beefed up schedule this year, placing seventh with 103 points, two points ahead of perennial power Beavercreek.

Lebanon finished third in the South behind champion Miamisburg (146.5 points) and Springboro (143.5 points).

The Warriors placed three in the championship match, including Logsdon.

Quinn May finished second at 120 after opening the tournament with a pair of pins, including the third seed Alex Willman of Sidney. May dropped a tough 10-9 decision to top-seeded Brenden Watson of Centerville in the finals.

Kyle Ramsey moved up one spot from his third seed, opening with a pair of technical falls at 126 before knocking off second-seeded A.J. Donigian of Beavercreek 11-7 in the semis. Ramsey, however, dropped a 16-3 decision to Fairmont’s returning state qualifier Josh Parrett in the finals.

Dean Broderick also placed for the Warriors, upsetting the third seed Dylan Perander of Miamisburg in the quarterfinals at 195 en route to a fourth-place finish. Steven Serbinski (138) placed sixth after entering the tournament unseeded.

Nick Scott (132), Derek Stover (145), Tyler Frasher (152), Austin Spangler (170), Kayne Collins (220) and Brad Booher (285) all won a match for the Warriors.

Lebanon returns to action next weekend when they host the Division I sectional.
