About Akron: The Zips are the highest-scoring team in the MAC with a 75.0 average. They’re allowing 62.5 points per game. … Akron’s 9-0 conference start ranks fourth in MAC history. Miami was 12-0 in 1957-58 and 11-0 in 1983-84, and Western Michigan was 10-0 in 1975-76. … Marshall is the all-time conference leader in blocked shots with 323. … Marshall ranks first (69.5) and Treadwell is fourth (53.6) in field-goal percentage in the MAC. … Akron is just 10th in the conference in free-throw percentage (66.7).

About Miami: This series is tied 24-24, though the RedHawks have lost eight of the last nine meetings. … Johnson’s 6-of-11 effort from the field Wednesday at Toledo was his first game above 50 percent since Nov. 24 against James Madison (7 of 11). … McKnight’s 11 points against UT matched his career high. … MU has outrebounded its last three opponents. … Miami is 3-8 on the road this season. The RedHawks were 2-14 in 2011-12. … MU has 296 turnovers and 272 assists this season. … Miami’s women will also play Akron at 3:30 p.m. in the back end of a doubleheader. The Zips and RedHawks are tied with Bowling Green for first place in the MAC East Division.

Coach John Cooper on Akron: “They can throw the ball inside, they can affect the game with their size on the defensive end, and they’re got guys that are capable shooters. We’ve got a lot that we’re going to have to figure out against them. They’ve been winning so long it’s part of their culture.”
