MASON —

Pure Barré may be just the thing to reignite the fitness flame.

“It’s a different way of thinking and exercising from what most people are used to,” said Janna Williams, who owns the Mason and Dayton Pure Barré studios with Joni Green.

What the business does: “Pure Barré is a specialty fitness studio focusing on the fusion of Pilates, ballet and strength training philosophies,” explained Williams. “It takes the best of these disciplines and combines them together.”

Williams says that the moves themselves are based on small, isometric movements that really target women’s trouble areas – the core, seat and thighs.

“We have a mantra,” said Williams. “Lift, tone, burn – as in lift the seat, tone the thighs and burn the fat. You should see an increase in strength and flexibility as well.”

Classes are about an hour long and Williams recommends attending three to four days a week, depending on individual fitness goals.

“I have a client who has taken 40 classes, coming consistently, and she put on a pair of pre-baby pants that she said she hadn’t worn in two and a half years,” said Williams.

How the business started: Williams was working in Lexington, KY as a special education teacher when she came across a Pure Barré studio. “I took a class and fell in love with it,” said Williams. Eventually, the Monroe native moved back to the area and opened a Pure Barré studio in Mason in October 2011, at which Joni Green was a student.

“Joni was a student at the Mason location from the day it opened,” said Williams. “Like me, she immediately fell in love with it and soon became an instructor. In May of 2012, we started tossing around the idea of opening a second location in Dayton, which eventually opened on December 5, 2012.”

Recent developments: For anyone interested in checking out Pure Barré, the first class is always free. From there, a preview package is available for $50 and includes six classes that can be taken anytime, but must be completed within two weeks. Classes are offered at various times, seven days a week.

There are many different package options available, including three, six and twelve month unlimited autopay options. Drop in for a class for $21.

“Pure Barré classes are suitable for all ages, shapes and sizes,” said Williams. “If you can hold onto a bar, you can do it. Come in, shut life out for an hour and focus on you.”
