A 49-year-old Lebanon man was charged with misdemeanor theft without consent after he stole five chains from the front of Lou’s Pony Keg, 740 Reading Road, on Jan. 22. The man, who turned over the chains after police called him to discuss the theft, said he only took them to go pull his daughter’s vehicle from somewhere it had been stuck. He told police he guessed he should have asked first.

A 16-year-old Mason boy was charged with illegal possession of a deadly weapon in a safety school zone and possession of drug paraphernalia. A staff member at Mason High School found a switchblade knife in the front lobby. A review of the school’s security camera showed the teen attempting to put the knife in his pocket when it fell to the floor and he failed to notice. The student admitted the knife belonged to him but told police he was friends with someone whose house had recently been broken into and knew guns were used and he was in fear of the people he believed did the burglary.

Summoned to the high school, the student’s mother requested his locker be searched. There police found a pipe, an empty pill bottle that had a very small amount of marijuana “shake” inside along with three other plastic bags and two lighters. The student admitted to owning all the items found.

A 22-year-old Mason man was arrested at 3:51 p.m. in the 4200 block of Ohio 741 on suspicion of fictitious plates, illegal transport of a firearm and driving under suspension. While being patted down, police asked the man if he had anything in the vehicle that he shouldn’t have. The man told police he had a rifle in the back seat. Police searched the vehicle and found a Hi-Point 9mm carbine rifle with a loaded magazine that was in a carry system attached to the butt stock, and the rifle was not chambered.

The man was arrested on suspicion of drug abuse and sales to/use by underage persons. A 17-year-old West Chester Twp. girl also was arrested on suspicion of two counts of possession of drugs. The girl told police she purchased the pills, Xanax and Vicodin, illegally in the Monroe area.

A 33-year-old Covington, Ky., man was arrested at 2:35 a.m. in the 5000 block of Beach Boulevard on suspicion of a weapon law violation and disorderly conduct. Following a verbal altercation at Waffle House, 5377 Beach Boulevard, the man allegedly displayed a Hi-Point .380 handgun outside the restaurant and made remarks about unloading the weapon on someone, then gave it to a woman at a Super 8 motel so it could be hidden. During a traffic stop, police discovered a gun case and handgun magazine in the suspect’s vehicle.
