FAIRFIELD - Fertilizer and lawn mowers have moved to the front of the home improvement stores as Spring is pushing Winter out.

The season is a popular time for residents to make home repairs and do some remodeling and landscaping. In honor of that, the ninth Fairfield Home Improvement Expo will have about 65 vendors on hand, including contractors, city departments and banks to help residents implement those goals.

“It’s where the residents can come and get some information and advice from contractors on what it would take to do a home improvement project in their home,” said Rick Helsinger, City of Fairfield building superintendent.

Businesses and contractors in a variety of specialties, including areas of insulation and energy technologies, building patios and decks and remodeling will be at the Expo. Fairfield Hardware Do it Best will have a booth, as they have at every prior Fairfield Home Expo, said Manager David Schrader. He said residents can learn about lawn care and protecting their homes while they are at work or on vacation. They may be giving special offers at the Expo to use at Fairfield Hardware.

The fun isn’t just for adults — bring children for activities and events that will keep them occupied. The Fairfield Police will be on hand for fingerprinting children for child identification. Kids can also have their face painted or hang out with Bucky the Beaver.

Several city departments will be on hand to answer questions relating to zoning and building permits. Fairfield residents who are planning to begin a project within the next six months can receive a voucher for a free permit, to be turned in when they start the project. Cost of permits depend on the price of the project.
