Lebanon joins 40 Days of Peace Initiative

By Staff

Several community leaders will be sharing the words of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. during the next 40 days in Lebanon.

Gandhi & King Speak to Lebanon is the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Coalition of Lebanon’s commitment to the 40 Days of Peace Initiative.

The initiative, which began Monday, Jan. 21, encourages national and local partners, individuals, families, communities, schools, communities of faith, community organizations and others to focus on building a peaceful community.

The MLK Community Coalition of Lebanon is encouraging everyone to make a difference in the lives of others by acting peacefully during the 40-day period and to help create a community of peace.

The community is invited to 180 Café, 30 N. Broadway, Lebanon, to hear local leaders reflect on the wisdom of Gandhi and King. The conversations are free and open to the public from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays.

The schedule of speakers includes:

Jan. 23: Barb Hobe — pastor of Bethany United Church of Christ

Jan. 30: Jay Mills — pianist, community leader, caterer

Feb. 6: Ricardo Lewis — pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church

Feb. 13: Jean Benning — educator, community Leader

Feb. 20: Wendell Anderson — minister at Zion Baptist Church

Feb. 27: John Zimkus — historian, educator

March 6: Dillon Staas — pastor of Lebanon United Methodist Church
