Bar fight ends in felonious assault charges

By Denise G. Callahan

LEBANON —

A bar fight and two domestic violence incidents have resulted in felonious assault charges against three men from Butler and Warren Counties.

Joshua Donahue allegedly brandished a knife after an altercation with another man outside the Lucky Dog Grille in Mason back in December. The 35-year-old West Chester Twp. man was at the establishment with a female companion and the other man was accompanied by a woman who knew Donahue’s friend, according to Prosecutor David Fornshell.

The victim apparently made a comment to his companion and Donahue thought the comment was directed at him and he pulled a knife, Fornshell said. One of the women got in between the men and prevented anyone from getting hurt. When Donahue and his female friend got in their car, Donahue allegedly then pulled a gun out and pointed it at the victim.

Fornshell said a Mason police officer happened to be in the area conducting a traffic stop in an adjacent parking lot.

“People were yelling over to him ‘he’s got a gun, he’s got a gun’,” Fornshell said.

Donahue is facing one felonious assault charge, two charges each of carrying a concealed weapon and improper handling of a firearm and tampering with evidence. Donahue allegedly asked his female friend to hide the gun in her purse after the officer stopped them at the Mason Pub.

A second incident involving a knife happened in Carlisle New Year’s Day when Roger Allen, Jr. allegedly stabbed his daughter’s boyfriend in the arm. The victim was holding his baby when he got into an argument with his girlfriend’s father. The 48-year-old grandfather allegedly knocked the baby out of the father’s arms and then stabbed the boyfriend in the arm.

Allen was charged with two second-degree felony counts of felonious assault.

Meanwhile, Stuart Sparks got into an altercation with his girlfriend on Jan. 2, and broke her hip and femur in Deerfield Twp.

“He gave her a pretty significant shove across the room, from one room to the next room,” Fornshell said. “It lifted her off the ground and then she landed on the ground.”

The 59-year-old was charged with one count each of felonious assault and domestic violence.
