Area man named VP at Christ Hospital

By Chelsey Levingston

WEST CHESTER TWP. — Alex Vaillancourt, of West Chester Twp., has been promoted to the upper management levels of The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.

Vaillancourt was made vice president and chief information officer of Christ Hospital this year. As chief information officer, he is part of a leadership team that reports to Christ Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Susan Croushore, said Michael Beauchat, a hospital spokesman.

Vaillancourt fills the job for Chester Maze, who resigned to be closer to family, Beauchat said.

“I like having the opportunity to move the organization forward. I think IT is a great industry to be in because it’s constantly changing,” Vaillancourt said. “The work that we’re doing is connecting physicians and patients.”

Vaillancourt said he’s lived in Butler County 12 years. At one point in his career, he was director of information technology at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

In his new role, Vaillancourt, 41, is in charge of the hospital’s strategies for how information technology can deliver the best patient care. It’s more strategic planning instead of day-to-day operations, he said. For example, he said he’s looking down the road at video conferencing for applications of telehealth, which uses video technology to allow a doctor to see a patient by video, as well as the patient’s medical records.

He said he heads 90 employees, including contract staff.

The father of two started in 2008 at Christ Hospital as director of solutions architecture. In that position he was focused on technology infrastructure such as networking, servers and communication systems, he said. In 2009, he was put in charge of a transition for the hospital to move from an out-sourced software system to an in-house software system run internally.

Through those two positions, he gained a wide exposure in the organization in both sides of the technology world, hardware and software.

“I think that’s why maybe I was a good fit, a good consideration for this position,” Vaillancourt said.
