1 dead in 86-car pileup on I-275 near Cincy

HAMILTON COUNTY —

A 12-year-old girl was killed in Monday’s 86-vehicle crash that shut down Interstate 275 in both directions between Colerain and Hamilton avenues north of Cincinnati.

Witnesses reported white-out conditions led to the pileup, which involved 70 passenger vehicles and 16 commercial trucks and semis, according to Colerain Fire Capt. Darian Edwards.

The fatality was initially reported as a 5-year-old, but the fatal victim was a 12-year-old girl, Edwards said.

Her identity has not been released.

Four people suffered critical injuries and were taken to various area hospitals, Edwards said. Their conditions were not immediately available.

A total of 20 people were injured and taken to various hospitals, Edwards said.

According to media reports, I-275 east reopened to traffic at about 5 p.m. I-275 west remains shutdown early Monday evening.

There were two other major pileups on area highways Monday believed to be triggered by the weather.

On I-75 south near the Ohio 63 exit, an estimated 50 vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash involving.

On I-270 in the Columbus area, authorities there report that there was a 29-vehicle pileup.
