Wintry start for St. Patrick’s Day

Temperatures across most of the Miami Valley will be in the 20s heading out the door before daybreak. A light mix of ice pellets and freezing drizzle was reported in Indianapolis Friday morning. That wintry mix will move into the Miami Valley and become more widespread between 7 a.m. and noon on Friday.

As temperatures rise, the wintry precipitation should change to just rain near or shortly after noon, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said.

"Road temperatures may be a bit delayed at coming above freezing," Elwell said. "This will likely lead to some slick spots on side roads, driveways and any untreated surfaces in the morning."

If you’re heading to Indianapolis, before the afternoon, for the Dayton Flyers game be careful. Slick roads will be possible in Dayton and Indy through the morning.

If you’re heading out after work to catch the 7:10 p.m. tip off, afternoon showers will have ended, and wet roads will likely be all you have to deal with. Driving home from the game should be dry, but some patchy fog could develop.
