Lakota West football player kicked off team, faces other actions after posting ‘vulgar’ video

A Lakota West High School freshman has been kicked off the football team after school officials discovered a video of multiple football players using “vulgar” language concerning a female student.

The student dismissed from the football team posted the video to a social media platform and will face other disciplinary actions, said Lakota West High School Principal Elgin Card in a response posted to YouTube on Friday. Other students who appeared in the video “are facing serious consequences depending on their level of involvement.”

Card said the student’s video “does not represent the character of Lakota West students” and that it is “beyond disappointing the student would not only say these hurtful words but consider making a video and sharing it.”

School administrators found out about the video Thursday night, and Card said it was “at the same time it was posted.” He said school officials identified the students involved and met with the entire football team Friday morning.

Students who appeared in the video told administrators they “were misled as to why the video was being made,” Card said, and the student who posted the video edited multiple clips to make it appear as if it was directed at one student.

“This type of behavior by any student is unacceptable and will not be tolerated here at Lakota West,” Card said.

Card said the freshman principal met with the father of the girl who was the alleged target of the video and “they know we have the best interest of their child in mind.”

“We treat one another with fairness and kindness, always,” Card said. “This is the Firebird way and I will not accept anything less.”
