1.) Ann Sweeten

This award-winning pianist/composer has just released a new album, “In the Wake.” She plays classical music while incorporating elements of jazz, pop and film music. 2.) Classical Occurrences

The Cincinnati-based White Orchid Trio will trek northward to play Celtic music from seven nations, including Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The White Orchid Trio is Amy Roark-Oblak on flute, Lindsey Duncan on harp and vocals, and Laura Hazelbaker on fiddle. 3.) Kentucky History

In 1844, Kentucky schoolteacher Delia Webster helped give two people a ride into Southern Ohio. Because her passengers were runaway slaves, she was arrested and became the first woman to be imprisoned for being a conductor on the Underground Railroad. Regional author Randolph Paul Runyon published the book, “Delia Webster and the Underground Railroad,” and will be giving a talk about her at Miami University Hamilton Downtown, 221 Hamilton St. in Hamilton on January 31 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. 4.) Financial Freedom - Get Out Of Debt

Local accountant Brenda Faye Chance will give a lecture on financial stability, covering topics such as basic budgeting and home buying. The lecture will take place at the Verity Lodge at Miami University-Middletown, 4200 N. University Blvd in Middletown on January 29 at 6 p.m. Admission is free. 5.) Everything Thomas

For over a half century, Thomas the Tank Engine has been showing kids the value of teamwork and of being a “really useful engine.” After progressing from books to television and feature films, live regional events such as this West Chester Twp. event have become common. The event includes the world’s largest indoor train display, a funhouse, a toy and hobby shop, scavenger hunts and, of course, the wooden train layouts that kids play with at home. The fun happens at EnterTRAINment Junction, 7379 Squire Road in West Chester Twp. from February 1-March 3. The event is open daily Mondays-Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon-6 p.m. Admission costs begin at $9.95. 6.) Cincinnati Hunting and Fishing Show

Have a hankering to go hunting or fishing but want something better than squirrels or whatever’s in the neighborhood catch-and-release pond? The Cincinnati Hunting and Fishing Show will help you plan every aspect of your expedition, from sites in the remote wilderness to choosing clothing and gear to striking camp. Live country music will accompany a variety of experts and seminars at the Duke Convention Center, 525 Elm St. in Cincinnati on January 27 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets are $11. 7.) Richard II

William Shakespeare’s play is based on the life of King Richard II, who ruled England from 1377 to 1399. Like many kings before and after him, Richard found out the hard way what happens when you diss the nobility. This was the first play in Shakespeare’s second history tetralogy, to be followed by Henry IV, Part 1, Henry IV, Part 2, and Henry V. Richard II plays at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, 719 Race St. in Cincinnati, through February 3. Showtimes are Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $28-$32 for adults, $24-$28 for seniors, and $22-$26 for students. 8.) Run For Your Wife

Cab driver John Smith has two wives and is juggling his double life quite well until a mugging puts him into the hospital and his two addresses surface. Now, he will go to hysterical lengths to conceal the truth from his neighbor and the authorities. This is screwball comedy in the classical tradition of “Bringing Up Baby.” Check it out on January 27 at 3 p.m. and on February 1-2 at 8 p.m. at the Sharonville Fine Arts Center, 11165 Reading Road in Cincinnati. 9.) Flogging Molly

Fronted by ex-Fastway vocalist Dave King, Flogging Molly released their fifth album, Speed of Darkness, in 2011. Flogging Molly plays both somber and boisterous tunes with traditional Irish instruments, so come down and check out one of the few punk bands with an accordion at Bogart’s, 2621 Vine St. in Cincinnati on January 27 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $29. 10.) Down

This heavy metal band, comprised partly of ex-Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo and ex-Corrosion of Conformity singer/guitarist Pepper Keenan, released a six-track EP, Down IV Part I - The Purple EP, last September.
