Take a page from one of Donna MacMean’s books this Valentine’s Day.

“My goal in writing a book is to make every woman reading relive those feelings of first falling in love,” said MacMean, who is originally from Forest Park.

The historical romance novelist will join nine of her local peers at the Barnes & Noble in the Streets of West Chester for a meet and greet and book signing at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 9.

Meet your favorite author, learn about how to write, peruse books for purchase, and even enjoy some candy at this 8th annual event. Door prizes such as Godiva chocolate and panelists’ books will be awarded throughout the three-hour event.

Newcomer Macy Beckett will feature her first publication, Sultry Springs, about a rekindled Texas romance. New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster will feature some of her 50 published works, including her extreme fighting romance trilogy. To Foster, love is universal.

“Romance novels entertain and reaffirm that love is out there if you open your heart to it,” said Foster, who’s appeared at this event since its 2005 inception.

Gail Allinsmith, community relations manager at the Barnes & Noble in the Streets of West Chester, said romance novels appeal to a variety of readers because it includes so many subgenres, such as mystery, history and paranormal. Authors come from Cincinnati, Indiana and Northern Ohio and Kentucky.

“I didn’t know, until I started this position, that a number of world-famous romance novels live in this area,” said Allinsmith.

MacMean, who specializes in Victorian novels steeped in charade and scandal, looks forward to her 5th appearance at “Romancing Valentine’s Day.”

“I love talking to readers,” said MacMean. “Maybe they’ll find a new writer to follow, or get to chat with an old favorite.”
