Fifty West Brewing Company, Brink Brewing Co. and Taft’s Ale House were named among the 293 best breweries in the country.
Fifty West Brewing Company’s 10&2 Barleywine won the Old Ale or Strong Ale category, Brink Brewing Co. won first place in the English-Style Mild Ale category for Hold the Reins and Taft’s Ale House’s Gustav won the Vienna-Style Lager section.
Ohio breweries brought home nine medals at this year’s competition. Since 2009, 22 Ohio craft breweries have won 52 medals at the Great American Beer Festival.
Fifty West, located in Columbia Township on Wooster Pike, provides an experience to pair with their beer.
The brewery opened in November 2012 and has since expanded across the street. Production Works features a large open tap room and bar, beach volleyball courts, canoe, kayak and bike rentals, patio, a fully functioning grain silo and a new workspace to increase production.
When Brink Brewing Co. opened its doors on Feb. 19, 2017, customers literally drank so much beer that Brink opted to close until March 4 to brew more.
Officials are hopeful the microbrewery, located on Hamilton Avenue, will help revitalize the College Hill neighborhood.
The owners of Taft’s Ale House opened their second facility, located in Spring Grove Village, on Sept. 9.
The 50,000-square-foot Brewpourium features a taproom and pizzeria serving coal-fired New Haven-style pizza. It serves as Taft’s primary brewing facility, featuring a 50-barrel, four-vessel brewhouse with the capacity to brew six batches of beer a day.
The original Taft’s Ale House opened in 2015 inside the historic St. Paul’s Evangelical Church at 1429 Race St. in Over-the-Rhine.
