The project will complete the remaining intersection improvements at Lawton Avenue that were part of the Interstate 75 interchange project in 2000.
The project includes the addition of a third lane of westbound Ohio 63 that currently ends at American Way and will provide a dedicated turn lane for the westbound traffic, including a large amount of semi-truck traffic, that turns onto Lawton Avenue.
The project also includes widening Lawton Avenue to provide a dedicated right turn from Lawton Avenue onto Ohio 63.
In addition, changes to the traffic signals — such as adding radar traffic detection — will be made at both Lawton Avenue and American Way.
A guardrail will be installed to protect the existing signal poles on the northeast and northwest corners of American Way due to the reduced clear zone with adding in the additional lane on Ohio 63.
