Butler County GOP seeks to replace judge, donate food

The Butler County Republican Party will help those in need on the same day it recommends to Ohio Gov. John Kasich to fill an open Butler County Common Pleas judgeship.

County GOP Executive Chairman Todd Hall is asking party members to bring canned food and nonperishable food items to the Dec. 14 meeting at Tori's Station in Fairfield. The food will support Reach Out Lakota, a nonprofit that supports those in West Chester and Liberty townships.

The party will make a recommendation to Kasich on a successor for the late Craig Hedric as a Common Pleas judge. Hedric died on Nov. 13 at a local hospital after he collapsed in his Liberty Twp. home.

"The Butler County Republican Party is happy to take the occasion of bringing people together, and in honor of Judge Hedric, we asked participants of the Central and Executive committees to bring nonperishable food items for those in need over the holidays," said Hall. "Reach out Lakota is an excellent organization. We are proud to partner with them and gather goods for a great cause."

Lourdes Ward, the executive director for Reach Out Lakota, said she is appreciative of the unexpected donation.

“This food drive is a wonderful surprise to us during a time when there is such an increase in the requests for assistance,” she said.
